HUGO PISTILLI

Born in Asuncion in 1940.  Painter and sculptor, also known as the “metal poet”.  Studied at the School of Fine Arts at which he was Professor of Sculpture for several years up to his death in 2006.  Exhibits since 1970 and his work has developed constantly and he is considered by the critics as one of the great sculptors of the country.  In 1981 he exhibited an sculptural unit “Afghanistan” inspired in the tragedy of that country.  In 1986 he obtained the prize of “Best Sculpture” at the Artists´ Forest.  In his long career he has made individual and collective exhibitions besides creating a great number of small sculptures which are granted as prize by different entities.  In 1983 he participated in the XX Edition of the Competition of Sculpture in Ice and “Urunde´y Wood in Resistencia, Argentina.  In September of that year he attend to Panam to make a work which integrates the Monument “América Unida por el arte” (America united by art), where he is named Honorary Member of the World Council of Plastic Artists.  In 1995 he makes in Culiacan, Mexico, a monument of 3,50 mts. called “Renacer” (To be born again) and in that same year The Paraguayan Government grants him the distinction “Orden Nacional al Mérito en el Grado de Comendador”
