LAURA MARQUEZ MOSCARDA

Born in Asunción in 1929.  Presently lives in New York, USA.

Painter.  Studied in Buenos Aires, Argentina (Academia Pio Collivadino), passing through all the academic courses.  First exhibition in Asuncion (1959).  In  1964 founds together with other painters the Modern Art Museum, private institution in which during the first three years many exhibitions were held with local as well as foreign artists, then it was closed.

Laura Marquez is a painter with a solid formation in academic information which undoubtedly gives her a notable advantage over other members of the last promotions.  In her first exhibitions she presented her work within the abstract line distinguishing herself especially in her 1961 exhibition as a vigorous painter and well oriented towards searching her own identity:  her series of suns confirmed this appreciation.

Soon afterwards she begins a stage which she herself calls her investigation phase, characterized by the speed of her journeys one way or another within the scope of extreme avant-guard which makes difficult for the moment to place her on a definite location.
