MODESTO DELGADO RODAS

Paraguayan painter, born in Villeta in 1884 and died in 1964.  Studied since 1903 in Rome where he travelled on his own account but before that he took courses on Painting in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Delgado Rodas could be considered the best painter of human figures within the period 1900-1950.  He was by vocation the only painter of nude figures, stimulated in Italy – he syntonized perhaps what could be called a local “weakness” in the genre at that time.  And he painted many nude figures and also landscapes and portraits.

He exhibited his work in Washington in 1926 and in 1930 in Baltimore, USA; in 1933 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  One of his paintings “Cabeza de niño” (Upper part portrait of a boy) was granted a stimulus prize at an exhibition in Cincinnati, USA, in 1931.
