ANDRES CAÑETE

Born in San Bernardino, Paraguay (1952).  Worked in Carlos Colombino´s Workshop where he learned Xylopainting created by Colombino.   Selected as one of the Paraguayan representatives for the First Latin-American  Biennial in Sao Paulo.  His engravings illustrate the book “Kalaito Pombero” of Napa Publishers.  Obtained in 1982 the First Prize in the non professional category of “Benson and Hedges 82”.  In 1983 exhibits individually at the Gallery “Artesanos”.  And in 1985 in Buenos Aires (Argentina) at the Gallery of Art “Cehass” (Centro de Estudios Históricos, Antropológicos y Sociales Sudamericanos (South American Centre of Sociologic, Historic, Anthropologic and Social Studies).  Obtains in 1987 the Third Prize in the Competition organized by the Municipality of Asuncion to celebrate 450 years of the city´s foundation.  And also in 1987 exhibits his work at the Gallery “El Galpón” in Montevideo, Uruguay.
